I Asked God

I asked God if he would send me a friend
Someone that I could depend on
I heard a whisper in my ear
He said I will always be near

I asked God to teach me patience
With all the people I meet
The ones that need help so badly
And live on the streets

I asked God for an understanding heart
When I am faced with decisions to make
He whispered that He would take a part
In all that I had to say

I asked God to lighten my load
Because I needed to do my best
He whispered to me
That He would take on the rest

I asked God for a special someone
To love me in spite of all I say and do
He smiled and whispered that
He would send me you
