The Indian Hunter Tale

The Indian Hunter Tale

He rides upon his horse
Across the mountains and plains
Hunting for some food
To feed his family once again

He knows it's to hot
To kill a big deer
For the meat to spoil
Would be his biggest fear

As he reaches a woods line
He dismounts and slowly walks in
He spots two squirrels playing
And suddenly gets a big grin

He draws back his bow
Then waits for the time to be right
As a squirrel stops on a tree
His arrow is in instant flight

His aim is on true
The squirrel is penned to the tree
He pulls another arrow out
Loads and ready for the next one he sees

And it's not long now
There's a squirrel squacking at his friend
Not knowing what just happened
As his life too just came to an end

He starts towards them
One quiet step at a time
Then hears a soft drumming
And thinks this day is going to be fine

He puts the squirrels in his pouch
Then slowly makes his way to the sound
He knows it's a grouse drumming
His heart beats with each sound

He spots it upon a log
Takes aim,and lets that arrow fly
And when he gets that bird
He's so happy he begins to cry

He gets back to his pony
And they head home again
To feed his little family
And tell stories to his friends

His wife is all happy
For grouse is her favorite meat
After they eat supper tonight
She might give her husband a special treat
