What Matters Most of All

Post by arvilj426 » Mon Dec 10, 2012 9:19 am

What Matters Most of All
Quite recently an election was held here on American soil,
We all saw and heard the candidates, and watched their labor and toil;
We heard all the polished speeches they made, about how much they cared,
We patiently listened day by day, as their political views they shared;
Of course all of this is nothing new, it happens every four years,
And much of what they had to say bored many of us to tears;
And yet we listened again and again, from dawn till setting sun,
As each man told us what he could do, and a little of what he had done;
We heard a great deal about how these men would bring about great change,
And yet it seems nothing changes, now don’t you think that’s strange?
These men keep saying that they have the answers to all that is wrong in the world,
While face to face upon a stage, slanderous accusations were hurled;
They pitted Americans against each other in a bitter political fight,
And all the while they were telling us that all of us should unite;
Now I ask you, What’s wrong with this picture? Do they take us all to be fools?
Do they think that because they are who they are, that we must bend to their rules?
Now don’t get me wrong, I greatly respect the office of the President,
But as of today no one in that office can convince me that he’s Heaven-sent;
It matters not at all to me, the name of the man in that chair,
For I know a Man far greater than he, Who has promised all my burdens to bear;
I care not at all about power, nor wealth or worldly fame,
And I’d rather die than to tell a lie in order to have a great name;
May I ask the reader who reads these lines - What matters most to you?
Do you know that God keeps a record of all that we say and do?
Do our leaders know that God Himself causes Kings to rise and fall?
And that someday He will require an account, and each man will answer that call;
And so I leave it to other men to curse and to kill and to fight,
What matters to me is to stand before Christ in a robe of spotless white.

Eloquent wording for all politicians from Representative on up. Nicely written and IMHO correct. However, I do disagree with the statement that politicians turn Americans against Americans. Individuals turn against individuals mostly due to a lack of respect for the other's opinions, ideals and viewpoints. Unfortunately, many people fail to put politics into perspective and it is sad when you lose a friend over political leanings or prevent a friendship from forming because of these differences of opinion.

I believe what matters most of all is we accept what we can't change, change what we can and be of service where we can, and be at peace with our surroundings and the people who are a part of it because in the end all the disagreements, opinions and misplaced loyalties will not matter on that one path we all will take.
As Don Quixote did, I too, tilt at windmills!
