MY NIGHT AT ICU

Post by Rita Biesemans » Tue May 02, 2017 12:55 am

MY NIGHT AT ICU

I have the utmost awesome admiration
for those hardworking nurses in ICU
gearing thru tubes of feeding and aspiration
emptying and flushing catheters of pee and poo

They treated their patients with extreme dedication
with a delicate touch and the warmth of their heart
in great respect for these sufferers of God's creation
bathing and turning them, not missing a single body part

Here no yawning, no sleeping nurses at the desk
but helping willingly with a smile on their face
not a single harsh word, no behavior grotesque
giving each colleague enough breathing space

Their warmth and friendship without nagging
was so refreshing and so healing to my soul
patients could feel this and some were begging
to give us a hug while ready to rock and to roll

These nurses stole a big piece of my heart
I was proud that night to be part of them
their patient care was state of the art
Those ICU nurses were a real gem.
