The War Draft

The War Draft

As he read his papers
Drafting him off to war
He cried bitter tears
His freedom would be no more

His mother took his hand
And said "come back soon,son
Take my love and prayers
To keep you safe from harm"

They knelt there together
And had a silent prayer
For his safe return
From that land Over there

The paper had instructions
For him to follow through
He must go fight a battle
In a place he never knew

He went through boot camp
Training him to be tough
It was 'nothing' compared
To the Hell he'd go through

He had to hunt for men
It was 'kill-or-be-killed' zone
Sometimes he was with buddies
Other times he was sent alone

After four years of service
The war came to and end
He was sent back home
But his soul would never mend

Once he returned to his mother
Tears of joy surely did fall
But he was a much stronger man
After following 'Uncle Sams' call

Yes he killed many people
But,he had to,to survive
Not only for his self
But for freedom of other lifes
