He Walks Along The Wall

He Walks Along The Wall

There he is kneeling
In front of that wall
Praying for his brothers
That took the fatal fall

He prays for others
Names he knew on the way
Some from different wars
He holds their memories at bay

He prays "Oh Lord keep them safe
Keep them close to your chest
For they left behind families
That may never get any rest

Some died so young Lord
But are missed yet today
Though their souls are Yours
We still feel the need to pray"

Then he stands up
And walks along the wall
Reading each and every name
As if he's taking a roll call

He reads so many names
As tears run down his face
Feeling pain for loved ones
As memories begin to race

He reaches out to names
To those he once knew
Some may look at him funny
But then, they have no clue

Then he reads his sargeants name
And drops down to pray again
For the time that he served
Old sarge was his best friend

Tears are still flowing
As he whispers his prayer
Hoping Sarge can hear him
Knowing how much he cares

He walks along that wall
Reading name after name
Honoring them one and all
Hoping no one died in vain

Certain names bring flash-backs
As if it was happening again
He thinks to himself
When will this nightmare ever end

TO SOME WE SEEM LIKE A GENIOUS
TO SOME WE SEEM LIKE A FOOL
BUT OUR WORDS OF POETRY
IS JUST OUR EXPESSION TOOL
