The Drifter [part 2]

He rode into town
At the break of day
With the sun to his back
He was there on his bay

He went to the stable
To give his horse a rest
He was just staying a bit
Then heading on out west

He walked down to the motel
To get some needed rest
The clerk closely watched
As he reached inside his vest

Everyone was watching
This new stranger in town
Some threw him a smile
While others gave a frown

They could see the notches
On the gun hanging on his hip
They knew he must be good
They didn't give him any lip

He went down to the diner
To get a bite to eat
The lady working there
Sure gave his eyes a treat

Soon another man was jealous
As anger filled his heart
He said "Cowboy meet me in the street,
And I'll tear your head apart

As they met in the street
Just twenty paces apart
When the gun smoke cleared
The angry man was shot in the heart

The cowboy hung his head
As if he felt so shunned
Walking back to the diner
As he lowly holstered his gun

Some say he was just a drifter
As others say there was no one finer
Some claim he went on to california
We know he married the girl in the diner

TO SOME WE SEEM LIKE A GENIOUS
TO SOME WE SEEM LIKE A FOOL
BUT OUR WORDS OF POETRY
IS JUST OUR EXPESSION TOOL
