The Drifter

The Drifter

He drifted into town
Like a tumbleweed in the night
On a Paint horse of white and brown
But it's eyes were black as night

He worked his way to the stable
To get horse bed and feed
Then headed to the hotel
To catch the sleep he'd need

He stayed much to himself
And kept a very tight lip
He didn't want any attention
Drawn to that gun on his hip

He was looking for someone
The name he did not know
But would know the face
Should that person show

For that man left him for dead
A few months ago out on the plains
Some indians doctored him up
Now revenge was going to be his gain

It was noon the next day
when their eyes met on the street
They both went for their guns
Could revenge be that sweet

When the smoke cleared the street
That stranger was still there
With the other man was dying
The stranger just gave a stare

He walked down to his horse
Put the saddle on her back
Then penned back on his badge
After he got it out of the saddle pack

Some say he was an angel
Sent to take evil out of town
Some said he was a ranger
But they still talk about the showdown

No one knows where he came from
No one knows where he went
But most will still swear
That he was heaven sent

TO SOME WE SEEM LIKE A GENIOUS
TO SOME WE SEEM LIKE A FOOL
BUT OUR WORDS OF POETRY
IS JUST OUR EXPESSION TOOL
