The Praying Soldier

The Praying Soldier

There he sits`inside the church
With his head bowed down in prayer
Praying for relief of his burdens
As well as others around him there

Praying for a change to come his way
He's tired of living on the streets
Just waiting with those saddened eyes
Taking handout from strangers that he meets

Praying for his family to return
That left him alone so long ago
When Uncle Sam called him to war
What it meant then he did not know

He hears the preacher preaching
But he sounds oh so far away
For he is in a deep trance
As he prays on for a better day

As he prays to the Lord
Some look at him like he's strange
But he is praying for them too
That someday they will find their way

If they knew the Hell he went through
While fighting in those battles
Just to come home and be shunned
It's no wander he's so rattled

As he prays he mutters some words
That others around can't understand
As if he's talking in a foreign tounge
But then he's not talking to just any man

As he prays he feels those burdens
Are lifted and then taken away
All because he was not too proud
To sit right there and pray

AMEN
THANK OUR SOLDIERS THIS VETERANS DAY

TO SOME WE SEEM LIKE A GENIOUS
TO SOME WE SEEM LIKE A FOOL
BUT OUR WORDS OF POETRY
IS JUST OUR EXPESSION TOOL
