For Mom

For Mom

I close my eyes
And there you are
Standing in the kitchen
Like a shining star

Fixing something to eat
For who ever came around
Always listening to us
But hardly making a sound

Usually frying fresh eggs
To go with bisquits and gravy
Always made from scratch
We either eat or got whooped, no maybe

Though you could hardly write
You learned to write your name
Without any education at all
You raised eleven kids just the same

You've been gone over five years
You are missed everyday by me I know
Every now and then you still visit
I can't mistake the shape of your glow

You was here tonight checking in
Checking on grandkids you never got to meet
Little Audrey says she talks to you
Bet you think she's a real treat

She described you and picked
Your picture right of the picture book
She has your pinch and twist
And if I tick her off I get "that ruth look"

Eva acts like granny her namesake
And Nathan acts like dad too
I've been told I'm cursed for such
Who Larry acts like I don't have a clue

They all like music and poems
And they all know how to pick too
They are all a bit rotten
But would be worse if they had dad and you

We miss your cooking and sewing
And all of your old fashioned ways
Most of all I miss you and dad
And all the memories from back in the days

How so many sibblings turned out so greedy
That's part of what puzzles me so bad
I know we was never raised that way
And to know this is enough to make anyone sad

Well I'm going back to bed and try to sleep
But who knows I might be back in a few
If nothing else to write another poem
And who knows it might be more about you

TO SOME WE SEEM LIKE A GENIOUS
TO SOME WE SEEM LIKE A FOOL
BUT OUR WORDS OF POETRY
IS JUST OUR EXPESSION TOOL
