Indian Ghosts

Indian Ghosts

I heard the drumming
Through the midnight air
As I walked towards the sound
I found that no one was there

Though smoke looked like tee-pees
And I could hear that drumming sound
As I walked a bit closer
I could not find any one around

As I turned to walk away
I could hear a chanting going on
Along with some bits of screams
It was as if they were singing a song

As I turned around again
A wolf howled from the top of the hill
Then a screetch owl did scream
And it gave me an aweful chill

It was then I saw the ghosts dancing
Around a big bon-fire flaming in the air
So I headed back towards them again
Then suddenly no one was there

Now I don't know much about the spirit world
But I've seen my fair share a time or two
Sometimes I'm thinking they're telling me something
Then I find myself to figuire out such a clue

Oh they was dancing there in plain sight
Though I couldn't find a sign the next day
I went there looking in broad day light
The weeds was standing and no marks in the clay

As I left out that night and headed home
I wandered how far one must travel back to that day
For that must have happened a long time ago
But yet their spirits are there to stay
