The Coal Miner

The Coal Miner

He crawls on the ground
Moving on his hands and knees
With his light and pick
Trying his best not to sneeze

Crawling through the tunnels
Like an over sized rat
Just to dig for the coal
Now what kind of life is that

He picks at the wall
Breaking off peices of coal
To send it out a shaft
Just to reach his main goal

At times he fights with bats
And watches the rats if they run
For it's a sign of danger
That kind of scare is no fun

Should there be a rumble
It's time to get out fast
Or they may never see their family
Once the cave turns to a blast

Some never know the dangers
The coal miner faces each day
Then there's danger of black lung
That kills too many in its own way

Yes he's just a coal miner
Working hard digging in the ground
Always watching and waiting
And listening for that aweful sound

It's true they need our prayers
As well as our respect for all
For it takes guts or a crazy man
To take those chances as they crawl

TO SOME WE SEEM LIKE A GENIOUS
TO SOME WE SEEM LIKE A FOOL
BUT OUR WORDS OF POETRY
IS JUST OUR EXPESSION TOOL
