THE SHELTERING TREE

Post by karenkelley » Wed Feb 03, 2010 8:08 pm

You hold my heart
I'll hold your hand
Together with our love
Strong like this tree we stand.

I remember the old tree
In Grandma's front yard
Where you first kissed me
Carved our names in a heart.

It shadows the porch swing
Where we sat at night
And planned so many things
As firefly’s shared their light.

The strength of that tree
With it's many scars
From rope swings children
Hung, reaching for the stars.

So much that tree did see
Our children playing, growing
Falling in love as did we
The circle of life flowing.

There are more hearts intertwined
That old tree holds our history
The children's, theirs with yours and mine
There is beauty in the scars you see.

Thu the years it has sheltered us all
Proud, elegant in summer or winter wind
Branches full or nude in late fall
Strong even as leaves fall, teaching us to bend.

As we celebrate this another Valentine's day
We decorated that old tree of life
Red hearts, flowers too, a flag for the brave
To honor those who serve day and night.

Like this old tree standing tall
They willing stand strong, protecting us all
I've held your heart, you've held my hand
Together in love, my darling we still stand.

Karen, my dear sweet sister,

You have sent us a lovely story filled with beautiful thoughts from another time.
You are so good at story telling and this was very cleverly written. It holds its' beauty
through its' tales and memories of times in another season. Like the tree in whose branches you can see the scars and scuffs of the climbing feet of children and the heart carvings and the ropes that inbeded into the limbs as the children went higher and higher in the swing, the house holds within its' now abandoned rooms memories of laughter and Christmas mornings and days when time had a slower pace. Was it really that long ago?

This is full of all kinds of stories. I love this. It is "special", because within its' time of youth, it learned that growing older can hold the sweetest of all memories. Love is a blessing, no matter where or in what season of life it is found.

Love you............beautiful as this poem, are you,
Karen

Dearest Karen K.....What an absolutely beautiful poem you have penned, my dear friend. You have captured the circle of love and the circle of life bound together by a tree and a family home. Each story gives the imagination a wondrous jolt and keeps the reader wanting more and more. The graphic is lovely, too. The video brings your words to life even more. It is wonderful. Thank you for sharing this masterpiece with all of us.

May God bless you and always hold you close to His heart.

Love You,
Beverly

Well Karen, sure don't know how I let this one slide right past me, but it did. What a lovely poem and what sweet memories you have to hold on to. O, if only houses could speak, I wonder what they would say. I have often thought that, and you probably have too. I could just picture this house and tree like it used to was, with the swing on the porch and all. Great poem there dear.
