The year was 1953 when our wee boy was born.
He turned our whole world upside down, our night time into morn'
I sighed and said" What can we do, this babe is warm and fed"
his tummy's full, his bottom dry, he should be asleep in bed".
Then his Daddy said to me "I've just had a great notion,
to keep this little one content, just keep his pram in motion"
So, when we went to bed that night, instead of counting sheep;
We gently rocked his brand new pram, we rocked it in our sleep.
He started school in Scotland, and he was NOT impressed,
He spent his first day standing there, beside the teachers desk.
Next day when it was time for school, he told me with a groan,
"I don't feel well, my tummy hurts, I think I'll stay at home.
All to soon the school days passed and work was on his mind
To a joiner's firm he now went an apprentice/ship to find.
He got the job, I knew he would, he is a clever boy,
Well since that day, with a little gap, he's been in that employ.
There are some stories I could tell, some best left untold.
But all locked up within a brain that's getting kind of old.
I remember when he fell in love, when he made Dawn his wife,
And now they have a family ,a big part of our life.
Now I think it's time to stop, though there is lots of stuff
that I could tell, but no-I won't, I think I've talked enough.
But son of mine, before I stop, before this piece is done,
Have a Happy Birthday, I'm glad you are our son.
Written by me ( Wilmas) on one of our son's birthdays. (Margaret)
