~ A Longing Heart ~

~ A Longing Heart ~

There are many lessons in life we learn -
As a result of this journey that we live,
A journey that offers a mix of good and bad –
Yet, one that will lead to a better life:
One that only God can give.

The longing of the heart may subdue us -
Reaching far and wide, and deep inside,
Listening for whispers that will lead us on –
As we search for our purpose, amid the strife.

How long the journey has lasted to this point –
That we don’t know how much farther that will be,
Some mistakes made, par for the human we are –
Our longing hearts some day to realize a new reality.

So many emotions and feelings did surface –
The very fiber of who this person we became,
Often times tested in those days of yesterday –
Thinking that in time the journey would change.

Birth into this world as fashioned by God –
To be a child all the days of our life,
We reaped the joy of the goodness that was ours –
And unfortunately, had to deal with some strife.

The child was still in us as we grew in age –
In knowledge and wisdom that was gifted to us,
Sometimes uncertain of what the outcome would be –
Learning that good comes to those who in God we trust.

People come into our lives, that’s just the way it is –
And some make a difference, while on this path we trod.
They stand beside us and lift us when we fall –
They are called “Friends” and they are sent by God.

No one is perfect, we all have our weaknesses and faults –
But often in need of someone who will understand and care,
Who will satisfy the void of our longing heart –
Who, when we need a helping hand, will surely be there.

Our journey of life can be one of doubt and uncertainty –
Our minds filled with false notions that never seem to end.
We can choose the course of this journey that we travel –
Be a solitary loner, and trapped in misery,
Or give our longing heart to the care of a loving friend!

Steve, I think you were born a hundred years too late. This poem reminds me of a piece that would have been written by one of the master poets of yesteryear. Of course, in this year, you are a master poet...no doubt !! But the in-depth beauty of your pieces reminds me of poets of old, in a time when words were the only way, besides music, to express oneself. This is simply beautiful...written for friends like poems used to be. Thank you for expressing yourself once again, Steve...a lovely read by a lovely man.

With warmest regards do I call you friend....Love, Linda
Always be kind and fair; it all comes back to you in time ! Image

STEVE, THIS IS SO BEAUTIFUL AND TRUE REALITY FOR ME. AS I READ THIS YOU TOUCHED ON MANY ASPECTS OF LIFE AND WHAT LIFE BRINGS OUR WAY. I READ IT AGAIN AND HOW CLEAR IT BECAME TO ME, WE ALL HAVE NEED OF A LOVING SOUL WHO CARES FOR US. SOME BABIES WHEN BORN THAT ARE LEFT UNHANDLED AND UNCUDDLED DIE FROM FEELING UNLOVED OR TOUCHED BY A CARING SOUL. LOVE THIS POEM, THANK YOU FOR SHARING A WONDERFUL MESSAGE. SINCERELY, BRENDA

AMEN! Thank you for this wonderful poem and message that has spoken to my heart in a very special way, Steve. I have been going through some extremely hard emotional stress, as well as medical issues, and have not been able to share my pain much except with my children, I've been meaning to post something on the Lounge or Prayer Forum, but it's been hard to put into words and I haven't done it yet. Nethugs is a wonderful site of loving, caring and sharing and your poem has encouraged me to share more.
God bless you, dear friend!
Love and prayers, Shirley

Shirley dear, I would encourage you to release that stress by sharing it with your friends, however you feel comfortable doing that, even if it is just one friend. We all carry emotional stress, anxieties, doubts, unsettled feelings, and the like (simply because we are human), some more, some less, and sometimes different. Getting it out is most of the battle, and we are not less a person for doing so, but better. At least that is my take on it.

Strange thing about this poem folks, the title came about a week ago and I wrote it down, the first verse came about 3 days ago, and I typed it in as well, and then lo and behold, the rest just came to me last night as I was watching a movie no less. LOL

Thank each of you dear frieinds for your kind comments; Linda and Brenda and Jeff, Pokey, and you as well Shirley. Wonderful thing about poetry, many times, though we may write it for ourselves, is can be related to by others. Like all you, I am so blessed with friends, something I never quite experienced until the birth of the internet. What a gift a friend is. Let us spead our wings and fly in all directions. Now I even have some family members who are friends, who use to be just family members. God bless each of you. Oh, wanted to note this: What a beautiful day it is here in MO today, just a gorgeous Autumn October day.

Thank you so much for encouraging Shirley, Steve. I was just about to do that, and was contemplating what words to use, and God just used you to do it so eloquently! What a wonderful God-filled group of friends we have here..Shirley, please do not hesitate to ask for prayer and support in any way you need it! That's what God's children do..we bear each others burdens as He has said we should. God bless one and all!
Love,
Pokey

Words actually fail me, Steve. This is just so beautiful and I just don't know how to explain the effect it has on me. It is a treasure trove of beautiful thoughts and hope.

You are the best of the best and we are all so blessed to have you to help us through with wonderful and "filled with wisdom" poems such as this one.

Love you,
Karen
